The Magic / La Magia

Hidden deep within the eyes
Behind pupils of unassuming hue
Scenery
So rarely seen indeed
A glint, a glimmer
A hint, a whisper
Of the magic
Of a woman
Fully realized and embraced
What rough realities she must have faced
What terrifying leaps of faith
How many loves she chased
Only to be turned away
Weeping that haunted her sleeping
Hiding undercover
Laughter following a morning after
A night with the right lover
The promise made upon a beach
That turned out just
Beyond her reach
The soft smile of her mother
Wrapped around her heart
Nestled in bright memories
She is at last
Truly free
Powerful and self aware
Radiating beauty that defies compare
Her soul adrift on warm, soft air
Finally seeing herself
Loving herself
As so many had before
Believing in herself
Discovering herself
And what she finds there
She adores

adora

  4. what an inspiring poem about a woman! I like how you described her struggle for selfacceptance...and I really like how at the end she is finding herself in a position where she accepts and loves herself! That is true magic and a happy ending indeed. Very empowering poem!

    1. Women fascinate me and I have such a heart for them. So often I see the things you all deal with and it just makes me want to hug you to try and help. Maybe this is a little of that. Thanks so much!

    2. to be honest, women fascinate me too! I find it much easier to understand men and I think that is why there is often a focus on women in my art. They can be so complex...I have some girlfriends that I'm only starting to understand fully and I've known them for years:)

    3. Men tend to be really boring to me. I mean I can care about them and find value in them but to spend time with them is usually pretty dull. When I am speaking with a woman she has my full attention. And if she's wearing tights all the more :)

    4. I think both men and women can be equally fascinating. I can't say that I find men to be dull but women tend to be more mysterious and it is harder to really get in their head...such is my experience.

  9. the first painting looks so surreal. I think the eyes, and lotus, and the makeup makes it look as if Inspired from India. I may be wrong, but its lovely.

  12. It's hard to explain how I felt as I read upon this poem, Shamu. All I can say is.... marvelous! This is beautiful poem and I love the way that this encourages women to be empowered and to stand up for themselves. Such a feminist reading, and I myself is extremely feminist so bravo, bravo on this well though-out literary piece. The lovely pictures herein are somewhat surprises on top of this lovely poem.
    Thumbs up..!!

    1. When a woman knows herself, loves herself, there is nothing that touches my heart more. And it is SO rare, maybe 1% of the woman I see daily are there and it breaks my heart. What a fantastic comment, dear!! Thank you so very much :) xoxo

  17. It is a good poem and you should be proud. Not sure where I come into it though. I am a Christian girl, definitely only had the one 'lover' as you put it.
