Circles (Círculos)

Rip van Winkle awake at last
cobwebs cleared
eyes straining against the harsh light of reality
crops withered
fields left to rot
by those tasked with tending
those I trusted

Emotions once a glacier, now like Armageddon's asteroid
the tidal wave sweeps me up
buries me deep beneath the waves
dapples of sunlight ripple above
Whispers of untrue companions stinging my ears
making it difficult to know which way is up
Swimming nonetheless.
Portions of my life flood my eyes
Lead to confusion, makes me swim harder

Impossible not to feel the pressure awareness brings
My heart simmers with just-now-accepted-as-real slights and neglect
by those I struggled to shield
from the judgement their actions demand

Acceptable no longer
How dare they

Rebuild my perspective, calibrate my actions
Love those who have harmed me
But withdraw

Stop wasting effort
on those unworthy
Be myself and enjoy
sharing that with those who appreciate it

Sickened by the fear of others
that twists their actions
to hurt themselves
to hurt me

Like radiation to my loving, open heart, poison
not welcome.
Help and run
Love from afar

No interest in being safe
Tired of being sorry
So tired

Ayuda y ejecutar
Amor de lejos

Ningún interés en estar a salvo
¿Cansado de pedir perdón
Estoy tan cansado

Oh this is so sad! Beautifully written, heartfelt, but definitely very melancholy. Are you ok? X

February 9, 2014 at 8:15 PM

Thanks so much, dear. Yes, OK would be a good word for it. This poem was part of a recent awakening. The start of a journey to stop looking outward all the time and see who I am, who I want to be. In the process of that, it became clear the people I was letting linger in my life did not care about me, just what I could be for them. Needless to say (and as you can tell) that hurt me quite a bit. Encouragement such as the wonderful stuff you provide me has gone a long way to help with the healing and letting me know there is a chance for me to find people who will find value in me. Thank you very much for that :) xo

NHL to you as well. The discovery process of self is quite the bumpy travel all on its own. Some people are like speed bumps to that process and this poem is for them :)

It would be so lovely to hear from you. I promise to respond either here or on your blog.
