Mama Mia

Cheesin' with me mum.

Have no fear faithful readers, you shant hear me warbling "SOS" endearingly off-key a la Pierce Brosnan.  Instead, I present you a gallery of shots in tribute to my mother.  She passed away a little over 2 years ago but there isn't a day goes by something doesn't remind me of her.  Now, before I get too misty, roll that beautiful bean footage.
Mum, Faye Lavina, was raised with 4 sisters.  Her family was so poor they actually had to give a fifth one up to be raised by other family members.  Her father was a coal miner in the mountains of Pennsylvania.
She and 2 of her sisters (including my Aunt Joey shown above) formed a singing group and performed quite a few amateur gigs around where they grew up.  She always loved singing.
A great picture of mum and I.  Baby Shower at the home of her in-laws.  If you must look at the date on the side just know, her pregnancy lasted 10 years.  Guiness Book.  Check it out. :)

And there I am all popped out.  Still have the same reaction when I see hairdos like this one.  Plus, I think I activating my solo Wonder Twins powers here.  Bee tee dub, that rocking chair is in my living room right now.

Our rocking 70's family portrait.  I think I was asking for a smoke here.

No, Mom never worked in a pizza parlor.  That was out kitchen in the 80's.  Too bad you can't see my Star Wars shirt.  And I know somebody out there wants those glasses mum is wearing.

Mum at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina.  She was born a country girl and was usually happiest in such settings.

And, yes, I know I promised the next chapter in my childhood saga, but its Mother's Day.  This next part is kind of dark and this post will help remind you that, in my story, there are no villains.  Only people with unique challenges.  Then there is the fact that one can only be truly random if one sometimes does what make sense.  So another time for that.

Before I go, regarding my last post, my self shots.  Wow you guys!  Thanks SOSOSO much.  I got a couple really encouraging responses which was extra cool because I was so nervous about posting them.  To those sweet ones among you who commented on those, you did a wonderful thing for me.  Maybe at post 100 you will see me again.  Well, maybe 1000.  See how my self esteem is by then :)

Thanks so much for reading.  You folks are wonderful!

I loved that new wave band in the 80's, The Background Experience. And of course a shape fellow like me knows exactly what you mean by that; it means you dated both of them. You go girlfriend!

Dark side begins perhaps tomorrow night. And you will meet Luke's father someday soon as well.

I believe I removed the only barrier between me and enhancement ads being sprayed across my beloved blog. No idea how bad I want that ascot!

It's great to have you around for sure. Keep me smiling fo' realz.
