A Patchy History

Growing up, as my family and I would travel, mom would buy me patches from wherever we went.  Once home, she would sew these onto my Cub Scout vest as a sort of road map to my memory, an incredibly insightful move on her part as most of my life at that time is missing to me (as discussed in earlier blogs.)  Sorry one had to be blocked out, a little too personal for even me, the open-est of them all, to share.

While it is true they serve as a poor substitute for the memories themselves, I take them as better than nothing.

You can see quite a few movies, all by George Lucas, are represented as well.  It paid to be in the Star Wars Fan Club.

The vest is scattered, colorful and random.  As such, it is a great representation of me.

Certainly there are some I could reflect on, maybe another time.  Best to see them as a whole at first.

I was very blessed to have been able to visit so many amazing places and take in such genius creativity.  The fact those experiences are not available to me today is a shame, but I know I have kept pieces from each of these events/trips.

I remember much of my trip to Egypt as I was 14 and starting to absorb the world better by then.  Not great, never great, but better.

This one dates itself as there are much larger buildings now out there, but the patch is so elegant and cool what does it matter.

I have always been fascinated with outer space so my visit to the Space Port in Florida does stick with me a little.  We were there a few days before a shuttle launch and then, in Epcot, we got to see it flying way up in the sky as it took off.  And, yes, that's Bruce Willis, one of my cassette tapes of his musical talents from the 90's.  Another post.

The place I got my first college degree, the English one.  Located in Peoria, Illinois, a city eternally reeking of the brewery located there.  One got used to it.

The university my grandmother got her teaching degree from a where some of my family works today.

Sea World, home (at least in the San Diego location) of Shamu the killer whale.  If the name "shamuboo" look familiar to anyone and those anyones have wondered what it meant, well, know you know the half of it :)

Callie!  I am trying to take pictures for my blog.  Shoo! Shoo!

Or maybe I'm done.  That's cool too :)

Thanks so much for visiting with my vest.  Hope you enjoyed yourselves and maybe pulled a memory or two up for you as well.  So wonderful to have you here!  Hope you have some fun this weekend and take care of yourselves.

okay so I may not have told you I had a Thing action figure. But really if one goes to Egypt even if one doesn't remember fully, one should let others know that after they chatted for some time. Don't give me no hassle about Ben...if you tell me you've been to Easter Island you're dead to me. NHL peebs.

The sew on badges are a great idea. I think it's great to collect items from places you've visited. I collect mugs. Lovely post.
Have a great weekend

Egypt is merely the tip of the iceberg dear. On a related note, I have a few comic books where Ben visits Egypt. If I had any sort of filing system I would locate and display. Callie thanks you for your support. Oh, and Happy Birthday from my blog.

Further knowledge on these events may be obtained only by those with the proper security clearance. Considering you have relatives who might be commies, I am guessing its probably a negative number.

I remember riding this thing called an Octopus that each cart spun in circles as they went up and down in the air. Not sure but I might have puked on it. Had more fun a few years back as an adult actually. A story for another time :)

It really is, for sure. Without this I would have so much less of my experiences to look back on.
