Intolerance (A Poem by Me)

Tolerance is brutal
Just indifference in fancy clothes
Once I thought it an oasis
To escape the lonely, empty
Holes within my heart
To be free of my smothering
And too comfortable
Blanket of solitude

The journey to that place
Was bought at a price of
Who I am, lost
Repressed
Buried deeply
Safely
Far beneath the sand

So when I reached my destination
I was welcomed
Because I had molded myself
To the expectations of those I admired
Forgotten myself as unimportant
To be someone
That might be tolerated.

Drinking deeply from that shiny water
I found it sour and infested
By the parasites that lived there
Who feasted on my energy
My trust
And in return?
Acceptance?
Love?
Celebration?
Tolerance

So I left that pond behind me
Pulled the blanket back up snug
Confused and defeated
Drifting

Then the sun arose
And hit my dormant soul
The answer was too simple
And too bold
But now known now required

So I traveled back to that sandy place
Deep inside my soul
Where I had buried every bit of who I am
And I dug
Until it lay before me
A mirror shattered
A million ways

As I put it all together
I smile at what I see
For my damaged heart is strong
And beautiful
And full of wonderful purpose
And yes
I am weird
I am the definition of normal to no one
I embrace that as a gift

Being me
May keep me apart from many
But I would rather have a few
Who know my worth
That be embraced as another man
By everyone on Earth.

For I am made
We are made
You are made
To be
Accepted
Loved
Celebrated
Not tolerated

Be bold
Be brave

Be you
Be free

Intolerancia (un poema por mi)

La tolerancia es brutal
Sólo indiferencia con ropa elegante
Una vez me pareció un oasis
Para escapar del soledad, vacío
Agujeros dentro de mi corazón
Para estar libre de mi sofocación
Y muy cómodo
Manta de la soledad

El viaje a ese lugar
Fue comprada a un precio de
¿Quién soy, perdió
Reprimida
Enterrado profundamente
Con seguridad
Muy por debajo de la arena

Así que cuando llegué a mi destino
Fui Bienvenido
Porque yo mismo había moldeado
He admirado a las expectativas de los
Yo mismo olvidado como poco importante
Para ser alguien
Eso puede ser tolerado.

Bebiendo profundamente esa agua brillante
Lo encontré amargo e infestadas
Por los parásitos que vivían allí
Que festejaban en mi energía
Mi confianza
¿Y a cambio?
¿Aceptación?
¿El amor?
¿Celebración?
Tolerancia

Y hermoso
Y lleno de maravilloso propósito
Y sí
Soy rara
Soy la definición de normal a nadie
Acepto como un regalo

Siendo yo
Puede mantenerme aparte de muchos
Pero prefiero tener pocos
¿Quién sabe mi valía
Ser adoptado como otro hombre
Por todo el mundo.

Por que estoy hecho
Estamos hechos
Estás hecho
Para ser
Aceptado
Amado
Celebra
No tolera

Ser audaz
Ser valiente
Ser tú

the funny thing about tolerance is that we all think we are while one can always improve, I would say ^^ Thanks for your poems, it makes me optimist to read people who care ;)

Thankfully, "goat" and "ascot" are not even an off-rhyme of any sort. I am clinging to non-rhyming words right now to allay the sound-same madness.

Indeed, tolerance is difficult to attain but I am working on the level above that, far above that, unconditional love. If you think tolerance is tough, wow, let me tell you :) So amazing of you to say such kind words. It makes me so happy if I can impact someone so wonderful in a positive way :)

You know back in school when we studies Lit, we had those books to read and we had to write essays on them. One section was also on unseen poem whereby text-based questions would be asked. I often score badly there coz I feel that certain poems are interpreted in the way the readers want and we get marked down for that coz that isn't the right answer. I wonder how well I would do interpreting your words.

Yes, I agree, Shamu. We should be accepted, not just tolerated, and accepted unconditionally at that. Lovely.

Wow, what an odd way to have kids learn poetry. But, then again, I remember my "creative writing" class in high school was mostly judges by punctuation and spelling. College was a different story thankfully. I can tell you exactly how well you would grasp what I am saying, %100. Because this and all my poems I give to you as a gift to make whatever you want with them. Maybe you feel it refers to solar flares, betrayal of friends, poodles on the moon, but as long as it makes you feel "something" I am really pretty happy :) I do hope people look closely at the last part especially and do not accept anyone in their lives who takes them for granted.

Actually, now that I read my statement back out of context I sound quite lazy. Kind of like taking a bookshelf out of an Ikea box, handing you the instructions and saying "seeya" :)
