Hello darlings, its your Uncle Shamu welcoming you to All Things Bright and Lovely.  Certainly today that name fully applies as my topic is the endearing, fantastic, beautiful film "Auntie Mame"

Frequent readers will know just how rare it is that I feature a movie on my blog, they really have to be special to me.  And this one certainly is.  Set in the late 1920's, the plot revolves around a young boy whose father has just died leaving him an orphan.  His only remaining family member is his aunt in New York City.  She is a flamboyant, exuberant woman, fully in love with life and determined to live it to its last drop.  His father, having hated everything his sister believed in, did not trust her to raise him in a proper way, so he also arranged for a bank trustee to oversee the development of the boy.

When aunt, Mame, and nephew, Patrick, meet they quickly form a strong and loving bond.  She dedicates herself to showing the boy all his father had held back from him, both in things such as culture and art and in affection and love itself.  It is not too long, however, before the choices Mame makes causes a rift with the bank trustee that results in little Patrick being sent to boarding school in another state.  This even also happens as Mame loses all her wealth in an economic crisis.  What happens from there?  Scenes of great heartbreak, humor and honest, sweet tenderness that will certainly touch your heart.  And the film with such a beautiful center, is also wrapped in fantastic fashion and set design.  Your eyes will be amazed at all the color and style displayed with its frames.

I decided to write this for anyone looking for a perfect way to bring in the new year.  Working this film into your plans, with its themes of living, truly living, the ultimate triumphs of love, the value of self over success, the smiles, tears, laughs, thoughts it will provoke.  It will get you pointed in such a positive direction for 2016 and you can even still go out partying afterwards.  Auntie Mame would have wanted it that way :)

Had a good laugh at the final screen cap. I'm definitely on the lookout for more films to watch this year just because I'd like to expand my knowledge on films and this one looks like something I have to watch. I'm loving the premise and you're right, the set design and fashion are so pleasing!

Thank you for the recommendation, I hope you have a lovely new year!

I've never heard of this move before but it sure sounds like something I would appreciate, especially the development of the relationship between the boy and the aunt and how his aunt showed him things that he was previously held back from. I think I would love the flamboyant aunt a lot!
