Birds they circle
In the sky
But they never land
Wish they would come down from high
And eat right from my hand
But skittish and suspended
My floating friends they stay
They sit ascended
In the clouds
And will not come my way.
Perhaps some cruel mistreatment
From another hand
Has taught them to be wary
Of their fellow man
For my birds have no feathers
No need
For beak
To speak
No wings
To bring them home
No tufted crests
No twiggy nests
For them to call their own.
But they are the full possessors
Of vision
Bright and clear
And yet they never see me
Hand outstretched
Down here.
And when I raise my voice
In gentle, sweet refrains
Calling down from overhead
They make their choice
They turn their heads
And simply circle
Once again.
Aves circundan
En el cielo
Pero nunca aterrizan
Deseo que se vendrían desde lo alto
Y come bien de mi mano
Pero asustadizo y suspendidos
Mis amigos flotantes que se quedan
Se sientan ascendidos
En las nubes
Y no vendrá a mi manera.
Tal vez algunos malos tratos crueles
De otro lado
Ha enseñado a desconfiar
De sus semejantes
Para mis pájaros no tienen plumas
No es necesario
Para pico
Hablar
Sin alas
A traer a casa
No copetudas crestas
No hay jerarquías twiggy
Para que llamen a sus propios.
Pero son los poseedores completo
De la visión
Brillante y claro
Y sin embargo nunca me ven
Mano extendida
Aquí abajo.
Y cuando levanto mi voz
En bordones suaves y dulces
Llamando desde arriba hacia abajo
Hacen su elección
Giran sus cabezas
Y simplemente círculo
Otra vez.

The ever-longing feeling of being accepted, of being acknowledged, of being chosen just for once is enough to make anyone tingle in the toes with that fleeting moment of joy.
