My Fair Indy

Today I visited the Indiana State Fair.  It draws over a million people each year, mostly folks coming to sample some of the odd cuisine one can only find in such places.

And, for the vegetarians out there, never fear...Dr. Vegetable is here!

One is greeted at the main gate of the Indiana State Fair by a giant organ from Pennsylvania.  Because who does not want to start a festive day with a gaudy, giant organ?  OK, I can't lie, I liked it a lot.

There was a lovely garden area with flowers and vegetables.  The bees were in honey heaven (2 featured below).

There was also a very cool Pioneer Village building with recreations of events and activities from the early days of America.  Featured below is a very sweet young lady who was kind enough to pose for a photo and chat a bit.  She didn't once call my cellphone a "tiny, glowing box from Satan" so the realism is not 100%.

Harkening back to the days of my youth, the fair had actual working video game machines from the 80's.  I haven't seen some of these in decades and they were like old friends considering how much time I have spent on them.

Another exhibit in the same building featured work from both Warner Brothers and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, more throwbacks to my younger days.

I even got to pose in the famous Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo, once as my alias namesake, Fred.

And once as Daphne because I wasn't sure which hole Fred was which sounds horrible when taken out of context.  I make a darn cute Daphne I must say.

The slogan of a local amusement park says "There's more than corn in Indiana" and, hopefully, this post gave you a small taste of that.  That being said, there is a ridiculous amount of corn here too.  Even at the fair.

It was such a fun time and I highly recommend it if you ever happen to be in Indiana in August.  And, if you find yourself in that situation, let me know and you can come fill another one of the holes in the Mystery Machine with me.  All my best to you and yours you glorious, sweet superstars.

Of course one would open the Indiana State Fair with a campy organ from PA! It only makes sense, yes!? I always thought you'd make a good velma actually ....and that second bee is like "Where's Waldo?" OOOO...your next blog idea?!

Sweet and meaty I am guessing as I did not get to sample from it. So many food choices need to go back. And, yes, I am thinking of growing my hair out and dying it red :) Thanks so much for coming by gorgeous :)

Odd coincidence: The second bee? His name was actually Norwaldo. Is that weird or what? It would be fun to have a global blog treasure hunt. Like a "Less-than-amazing Race" Elephant ear is a piece of fried dough about the size of a small elephants ear brushed with butter and coated heavily with cinnamon sugar. Very sweet and tasty.

I've always wonder about such state fairs when I see them on my overseas blogger friends' blogs and also on photos of some of my Singaporean friends who relocate. It's so fun!

Oh, I love those old Scooby Doo cartoons where the diving gear is still those with oxygen tubes attached to the ship above and that all the ghosts and monsters were humans in crime. It's so fun to solve them midway. The new Scooby Doo cartoons aren't nice at all.

Which hole Fred was sounds too darn funny seriously when we do not know the contex. You look cute as Daphne!

You solved the Scooby Doo mysteries halfway through? Wow! Will have to call you Sherlock Holmes or maybe Shaggy Holmes more appropriate.

We have state and county fairs all summer and I try to go to as many as I can.

I was just happy I was able to locate the right hole for Fred :) Shopping for large, purple dresses now :))

Wonderful to have you stop by sweetie.

I didn't go for years, mocked it without mercy from afar, went last year and realized I'd been a dope. Very charming and wonderful food. Thanks so much for visiting :)
