Album Photos

For this post I offer some of my favorite/oddest items from my collection of records.  For those unfamiliar with records, they are what music was played on after rocks and before CD's and digital downloads.  Above, a very young Ray Charles pours a ton of soul into some classic country and western tunes.

May as well get the cool ones out of the way first before my dork-tastic tendencies take over.  Old Blue Eyes singing with the fantastic Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

Ah, well The Beatles are still cool right?  Have all their albums.  Last socially acceptably cool one.  But no one is cooler than....

...ladies and gentleman, but mostly ladies, the one, the only, Mr. Tom Jones!!!  The Welsh Wonder wows women wonderfully.  Like a honey-voiced, actually groovy Austin Powers.  Naturally, a role model pour moi.

And you can't go wrong with The King.  Crooned Christmas tunes and a nice green color vinyl to boot.

Totally forgot my Mancini entry.  Way too hip and stunning to fall into the nerdiness now to come.

I did used to watch professional wrestling, but bought this album to use for giving a speech on the subject in college.  I performed a Hulk Hogan entry into the class with his music and even posed and tore my shirt off like Hulk prior to my speech.  When I have flashes of non-introversion it usually goes way the other direction :)

Weird Al, comedy genius, accordian maestro.  His witty tunes helped me through many a tough time in my youth.  And, yes, I do "dare to be stupid" to this day :)

Too nerdy?  Perhaps, but by golly that Vulcan can sing a bit.  Not well, mind you, but very amusingly.  The title track is called "Highly Illogical."

Along those lines is a record I played so frequently as a lad I had its every note memorized.  John Williams is a brilliant composer and his genius was on full display here.  And because it was so cool, here is the back cover.

If you do not have at least one Village People album, you owe it to yourself.  And considering that so much of popular music there days is disco, it may actually be hip.

And our last album are songs from the children's TV show, Sesame Street.  Featured are the lyrics to "Rubber Duckie."

As a little bonus, for fans of Josh Groban or just fans of stellar, fantastic music in general, here is a video I took at his concert a couple weekends ago.  I apologize for the video quality but the sound turned out a bit of alright.  Many warm hugs and happy wishes to you and thanks so much for visiting with me for a bit :)  You rock!

Love your album collection! Especially the pre dork contribution but even the nerd fest that follows is cool... I can say that because I think I have most of these as well... except I have the shatner edition... ROCKET MAN... God awful!

Nice record collection. I would always appreciate songs from The Beatles and from the King himself. Sesame Street record? Wow!!!

I used to watch wrestling as a kid during the Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior era. Now I hate wrestling and totally cannot identify with anybody there. I wondered how you did the tearing of clothes part and how did your schoolmates react.

Well, since, like now, I am not exactly Mr. Muscles, I pre-cut the shirt to tear easily. My schoolmates thought it quite hilarious. I have it on VHS tape somewhere. If I could find it and get it digital I would gladly share. I can no longer watch wrestling now either. It used to have a certain charm and fun and now just mean and brutal and dumb. Thanks for coming by!
