The Blizzard of Ours -- La ventisca de nuestro

Greeting from the frozen tundra once known as the Midwest of the United States.  We have been experiencing some very extreme weather the last few days which has hampered, and still does, many of our daily activities.

In exchange, however, for the 70 degree below freezing temps and very deep snow and ice, we have been granted with some wonderful beauty in nature.

You can see we have collected quite a bit of winter is a very short time.  It kept me stuck inside for well over 48 hours straight.  The only time I ventured outside was to shovel snow or, of course, take pictures.  The temperatures were just too dangerous to be exposed too long.

This gives you a bit of the idea of the depth of the snow and ice.  Made for much work to remove it and my back is a bit sore, but it is actually a bit fun to shovel snow.

There were no hamburgers on the grill, that is for sure :)  But we were plenty stocked with food and drink as we were aware the store was coming.

For all the fuss and hassle, I am glad to have the experience.  It has been too long since nature challenged our area in this way and it is good to remember just how powerless we can become and how quickly.  As advanced as humans are in 2014, nature has had many more years of practice.

So, as for me, mostly I was inside with little big Buddy dressed in layers and trying to get over a rather wretched cold.  Buddy is perfectly healthy though and kept me quite entertained with his antics.

Thank you so much for stopping by and for all the kind comments on my last poem.  I hope that the world around you offers as many grand, brilliant vistas as those here.   Lots of hugs and warmest wishes to you :)

Such beautiful photos and the news has kept us totally up to date with the freezing weather in the States. I thought is was cold in Munich last year at 13ºC below zero, I just can't imagine the temperatures you've been having. The views are definately worth it though.

Ummmmm, well technically more like trail shoes but no they were really just mostly sneakers. Shammy ain't got time for no boots. Plus, my feet are always extra warm. Double plus, who needs all 10 toes anyway?

I love to read you in Spanish. It was awesome to see how you were you in USA. We've known for the television news and the newspapers here.

Just I was spending a few days in the snow. But Spain was 0 degrees celsius. Still, I spent a lot of cold. I can't believe how cold it was there.

They said on the news that it was dangerous to be out because the temperatures were very low, around -30 degrees celsius, but with a wind chill of - 50 degrees.

Photos impress much. It's a beautiful landscape but it scares me. I always will prefer the sun ...! Many kisses!

That is amazing they are covering it in your area as well. So cool :)

You are a sun baby, I know, but it is something to experience, this frozen stillness and quiet, the crunch of frozen snow under your feet, the howl of a winter wind. Cannot imagine living somewhere without it.

Oh so many kisses to you too, dear. So happy to have you visit :)

I felt that those snow blizzard photos look really beautiful when I saw them on Instagram. I didn't know how thick they were and I didn't know how cold 70 degree F below 0 is until I googgled and converted it to degree C. We use degree Celsius here. I love snow and wished it would snow in my tropical country though I only like them if they were a few inches covering the ground. That's the perfect kinda snow. I hope you have since recovered from the cold bug and hope that the 1st week of 2014 has been kind to you.

PS:
I was trying to find your email @ on this page and your google page. Could you drop me an email at iamjolene@gmail.com so I could have your email @? Thanx!
